Our Founder

AwYong Sensei developed a deep interest in martial arts originating from China, Japan and Korea, due to extensive exposure in martial arts in the 60s. After getting acquainted with several martial arts, he found his true calling in Aikido. He started his Aikido journey in 1972.

Since the 90s, AwYong Sensei has been actively involved in the teaching of aikido in various community groups and institutions.

Awyong Sensei was also the instructor to the staff club of both the UOB Bank and OCBC Bank in Singapore and the Social Development Unit (SDU), then under the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports.

In 2000, he was awarded a plaque as an appreciation from the Gurkha Contingent for his dedicated coaching. In 2002, AwYong Sensei established ZHEN QI SHU Aikido and he continues teaching aikido in recreation clubs in private and government sectors and community clubs.

AwYong Sensei now holds a 5th Dan in Aikido awarded by Aikikai World Headquarters, Aikikai Foundation in Tokyo.
